A discussion meeting on Gender Strategy for CCICED Project was held in Beijing on June 25. The development of gender strategy is one of the key components of CCICED project. It mainly includes: 1) CCICED advice and recommendations on environmental management and sustainable development, include (where relevant) gender equality perspectives; 2) gender dimension will be integrated (where relevant) in the project’s own substantive activities, such as Task Force Research activities; 3) CCICED should increase the participation of women in Council research, policy formulation and decision-making process, and etc.

The presentations on gender equality issues are made by both Chinese and international experts, in particular female position in social and economic development, gender difference of the threats caused by eco environmental pollution and the unique role of female in sustainable development. The meeting introduced and discussed the Gender Strategy (draft) of CCICED project.

CCICED Secretariat and its International Support Office co-organized this meeting. Mr. Kent Smith, Counsellor for Development Cooperation in Canadian Embassy was invited to open the meeting. The representatives from relevant departments of Ministry of Environmental Protection, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Party School of CPC, Canadian Embassy, UNEP Beijing Office and CCICED Chief Advisors’ team member joined the meeting.
