First Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Energy and Environment, Norway
Mr. Brende was born in Odda, Norway. He became the Member of the Norwegian Parliament since 1997. In the Storting Committees, from 1997 to 2001, he was the member of the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs; and since 2005, he became the first Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Energy and Environment.
Mr. Brende took several important positions in the Norwegian government. From 1991 to 1997, he was the Deputy Mayor of the city of Trondheim; from 2001 to 2004, he worked as the Minister of the Ministry of the Environment; and from 2004 to 2005, he was appointed to be the Minister of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Mr. Brende also had appointments in some international organizations. He was the Executive Committee Member of the Norwegian Aid to Afghanistan in 1987. From 1991 to 1992, he worked as the Deputy Chair of the European Movement in Norway. From 2003 to 2004, he was appointed to be the Chair of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development.
Mr. Brende got a Bachelor Degree from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in 1997.
